It might not contain a hit-of-the-year "Hey Ya!" equivalent — that's a tough act to follow — but Idlewild is a fun ride, full of big beats, clever tunes and satisfyingly bizarre skits and asides. Musically, Andre and Big Boi bounce between old-style swing and the hip-hop of the future, as they sing, rap and generally make merry on this soundtrack to their movie of the same name. Newcomer Janelle Monáe croons her heart out on a couple of tracks, with a voice that soars like a bird while being as smooth as honey. We can't wait to hear from her again.
