Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Cast: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron Cohen
Release date: December 21
Why you should see it: Murders and musicals? As unlikely as it sounds, Tim Burton will bring these two elements to a theater near you. An adaptation of the famous stage musical follows a murderous barber (Depp) seeking revenge after a judge (Rickman) wrongfully imprisons him and then rapes his wife and steals his daughter. The gore will be horrific, and the lines will be mostly sung. But Johnny Depp singing should be reason enough to check it out.
Box-office bottom line: Johnny Depp and Tim Burton collaborations may not always be a profitable sensation (Ed Wood anyone?), but the uber-dark tale and Johnny Depp singing will cause quite a few sold out theaters.
