Behind the Scenes: On the Set of We Are Marshall

I was a huge Party of Five fan back in the day, so meeting "Charlie Salinger" was a thrill. Most of you will probably recognize him as Jack from Lost. I have to tell you, he is so handsome in real life. Dare I say it, he's better looking than McConaughy. But back to the matter at hand... Fox plays Red Dawson, a Marshall coach, responsible for recruiting, who didn't get on the plane at the last minute -- and has being dealing with the guilt for his entire life. Fox spent time with the real Red to prepare for the role.

"I was shooting Lost in Hawaii and my schedule was tough," Matt explained. "I knew I wasn't going to get a chance to fly to Huntington and spend time with Red before my part of filming began, so I called and asked him to come to Hawaii and spend a few days with myself and my family. I wanted to hear his perspective on the story -- I felt it was important. I was fully prepared for him to say no, but he said he'd consider it. A couple days later, he called back and said he'd come. I was very flattered.

"He came to Hawaii and we spent three or four days together -- an intense three or four days. The first few days we spent getting to know each other. It turns out we have a lot in common and he reminds me so much of my father it isn't even funny. Then when we started talking about the actual event and how that effected him, he said, 'Look, there are going to be moments where I'm probably going to lose it and be emotional. Then I'll get back on track.' He was incredibly brave and giving about his experience and it was very, very helpful to me. He's an amazing guy."
