The best actor race is full of shoo-ins this year, but the trouble is, only one of the five can win! While Heath Ledger looks like a front-runner, anything could happen. He hasn't picked up all of the preliminary awards, so it's still a wide-open race, and anyone can win.

After you check out these best actor hopefuls, don't forget to take a look at our picks for best picture and best actress, and tell us what you think.

The five nominees:

Strumming a guitar as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line is doing wonders for Phoenix's career, making him a heavyweight among all the nominees this year.

small photoPhilip Seymour Hoffman
Definitely the actors' and critics' choice at the moment, Hoffman is basking in the glow of his leading role in Capote.

As a gay cowboy who is trying to be a good family man in Brokeback Mountain, Ledger has turned himself into an award-worth star.

George Clooney might be the bigger star in Hollywood, but in Good Night, and Good Luck, Strathairn takes center stage and wows as Edward R. Murrow.

Howard might seem like a long shot for Hustle & Flow, but he sparked a lot of excitement this summer playing a Memphis pimp with a big dream.

Last year's winner: Jamie Foxx (Ray)

BROKEBACK WAS ROBBED !!!
I and all my friends are so upset at the snub from the Academy Awards, when all other awards and polling showed overwhelmingly that "Brokeback" was the year's Best Film!!! Now the reasons behind this upset are beginning to emerge....a lingering prejudice against gays in the supposedly "liberal" film industry that in the end said "We refuse to honor a love story we strongly disapprove of"!! For the Academy to be revealed as a petty and easily manipulated voting bloc at a time when it has already lost so much credibility may damage its reputation beyond repair, and deservedly so!!! I have vowed never to watch this ridiculous ceremony again! Forget about the Oscars, Heath and Jake.....your portrayals of Ennis and Jack will live in our hearts forever!!!
