The five nominees:
Munich
This drama about the aftermath of the Munich Olympic terrorist attack was something of a surprise on the best picture list, since it didn't win many other nominations. But who can count out Steven Spielberg?
Crash
Crash is the little movie that could with the huge cast that couldn't not make it. Now, can it go all the way?
Good Night, and Good Luck
This critics' darling has great acting, a blistering moral theme and a bright and shiny star behind it. Could it be George Clooney's year?
Brokeback Mountain
This bold movie puts a twist on the classic big star love story: It's boy meets boy. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are cowboys in love in this adaptation of E. Annie Proulx's short story.
Capote
This year's little indie that could is a biopic about the famous writer, with great acting from Philip Seymour Hoffman. Critics have been raving since it debuted, even though most of America hasn't seen it.
Last year's winner: Million Dollar Baby

I and all my friends are so upset at the snub from the Academy Awards, when all other awards and polling showed overwhelmingly that "Brokeback" was the year's Best Film!!! Now the reasons behind this upset are beginning to emerge....a lingering prejudice against gays in the supposedly "liberal" film industry that in the end said "We refuse to honor a love story we strongly disapprove of"!! For the Academy to be revealed as a petty and easily manipulated voting bloc at a time when it has already lost so much credibility may damage its reputation beyond repair, and deservedly so!!! I have vowed never to watch this ridiculous ceremony again! Forget about the Oscars, Heath and Jake.....your portrayals of Ennis and Jack will live in our hearts forever!!!

What a travesty that "Brokeback Mountain" was passed over by the Oscars!!! This film will live on when all the other nominated films have long since faded into memory. Why? Because it reaches so deeply into the human psyche and its longings for love and fulfillment that eludes so many of us.
