Girl Power

Because there has been so little opportunity out there for experimental filmmakers to distribute their work ‑- particularly women filmmakers ‑- July also became a movie mogul along the way, at least on a small scale. In the late 1990s, she started a Web-based film distribution collective called Joanie 4 Jackie to make available short films and features made by women. She has since passed on the reins to a group at Bard College in upstate New York, but she is still associated with the program.
