Tween
by Jeffrey Wells and Jett Wells
Jeff says: If anything, boy tweens are even more into mainstream flotsam and jetsam than grade-schoolers. And yet some tweens have been known to develop a certain cultivation, and even curiosity about adult life. When Jett and his friends were about 12, they all got into Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick films are adult, yet easy to read and clear as a bell. Ditto Alfred Hitchcock. So I was just as pleased that Jett and Dylan started to enjoy Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest when they got to be 11 and 12. The boys were also into Titanic at this age, and were genuinely moved by it.
Jett says: Any kid older than 10 is going to want to see films about sex and dating. It's about something called puberty. The first one I got into was Can't Hardly Wait, a simpleminded thing about a huge party and kids goofing off and trying to get girls.
